Art of Atari

ebook

Atari is one of the most recognized names in the world. Since its formation in 1972, the company pioneered hundreds of iconic titles including Asteroids, Centipede, and Missile Command. In addition to hundreds of games created for arcades, home video systems, and computers, original artwork was specially commissioned to enhance the Atari experience, further enticing children and adults to embrace and enjoy the new era of electronic entertainment. The Art of Atari is the first official collection of such artwork. Sourced from private collections worldwide, this book spans over 40 years of the company's unique illustrations used in packaging, advertisements, catalogs, and more. Co-written by Robert V. Conte and Tim Lapetino, The Art of Atari includes behind-the-scenes details on how dozens of games featured within were conceived of, illustrated, approved (or rejected), and brought to life! Includes a special Foreword by New York Times bestseller Ernest Cline author of Armada and Ready Player One, soon to be a motion picture directed by Steven Spielberg. Whether you're a fan, collector, enthusiast, or new to the world of Atari, this book offers the most complete collection of Atari artwork ever produced! Robert V. Conte is a Pop Culture historian who has written, edited, packaged, and brokered over 2,500 titles including STAR WARS: THE ORIGINAL TOPPS TRADING CARD SERIES VOLUME ONE (Abrams ComicArts), BLACK SABBATH: THE OZZY OSBOURNE YEARS (Omnibus Press) and now ART OF ATARI (Dynamite Entertainment)! Armed with his vast memorabilia collection, Robert utilizes his expertise on a myriad of officially licensed products, including Godzilla, KISS, and Sesame Street. Conte's upcoming projects include a documentary, the graphic novel REBUILDING ROBERT and a Kickstarter project. He lives in New York, NY and has three children. Tim Lapetino helps brands tell their stories, where business goals and authentic creativity collide. Comfortable in deep dive details as well as panoramic scope, he empowers clients to communicate with their audiences in ways they can embrace. He is passionate about developing creative talent everywhere — mentoring young designers and nurturing growing brands. Curious in life, thoughtful in writing, and pragmatic in design, he shines specifically in identity design, strategy, naming, print, and package design. He resides in Chicago and is an active member of its design community, most recently teaching logo design, brand identity, and brand standards as Adjunct Faculty at Chicago Portfolio School, and serving on the non-profit AIGA Chicago's Board of Directors as Co-Development Chair. In addition, Tim is Executive Director of MOVA, the Museum of Video Game Art. Tim is co-author of the upcoming book, The Art of Atari, by Dynamite Entertainment, as well as working on another based on the work of artist Arthur Radebaugh.
